Hypnosis Facts

What You Can Expect in a Private Session:

You are welcomed into a safe, cozy environment where Sherry devotes about 30 minutes for your initial private interview to learn about you and to answer your questions about hypnosis, so that you are completely comfortable before beginning your hypnotherapy.

During the interview, please share what you want to accomplish in detail; the changes or goals you want to make for yourself. Many times, I find my clients focus on what they do not want in their lives instead of what they would like to see happen! So you may want to take a little time before we meet, and focus on what life would be like for you after those changes have taken effect. Visualize what your end result would be, and then I can customize that into your sessions. I will also have some questions to ask you at that time, based on what your needs and habits are.

Sherry uses progressive Relaxation Techniques, Guided Imagery, and Hypnotic Suggestions to help move you into hypnosis and a deeper subconscious state of mind. These tools along with her soothing relaxing voice help you to move quickly and easily through the blocks to your success.

With each Hypnosis Package you receive a Self Hypnosis CD, giving you ongoing support to continually reinforce the work you are doing until the improved behavior patterns are integrated into your everyday life.

☼ Most of my sessions are HypnoPuncture treatments. So pricing and time in hypnotherapy will be based on a HypnoPuncture treatment.
Typically, a 1 Hr treatment with 30 minutes of Hypnosis is included.

**For Hypnosis only – the sessions are approx. 1 hr. in length.

What is a Hypnotherapist?

A Hypnotherapist is a skilled and trained helping professional who helps you use your own powerful mind to increase motivation or change behavior patterns while the client is in the hypnotic state.

The hypnotherapist induces hypnosis state when the critical mind is temporarily relaxed and the subconscious mind is most susceptible to suggestions. Everyone is susceptible (to one degree or other) to suggestion. Your hypnotherapist will guide you through some exercises that will help determine your degree of suggestibility. The hypnotherapist can then be able to give appropriate suggestion to the subconscious mind with very little resistance from the conscious mind and critical mind. Finally, your hypnotherapist will induce a hypnotic state using individualized methods and techniques based on the results of your suggestibility and the nature of your goal or problem.

A Hypnotherapist can use hypnosis to treat many problems and conditions such as quitting smoking, chronic pain, weight loss, stress & anxiety, fears & phobias, self confidence, habit control, insomnia, sports performance, and many others.

Your Hypnotherapist would first discuss the goal the client wants to achieve or the problem s/he wants to resolve in detail. The hypnotherapist can share in the experience of the client as she/he experiences it, offering more individualized therapy can be and thus greater impact. The hypnotist also prepares the client to enter hypnosis by explaining just what hypnosis is, how it works, and what she/he will experience; if you're starting on a trip it helps to know how and where you're going.

How are hypnotists certified? Hypnotists are certified by specialized schools. They are not licensed by the state of Arizona as alternative health care practitioners. Sherry holds her certification from the Wesland Institute and abides by the strict standards set forth by the National Guild of Hypnotists.

Will I lose control? No, you are always in control and cannot be hypnotized without your permission. You cannot be made to say or do or feel anything under hypnosis that you don't want to. You are simply guided to your most comfortable level of relaxation and given the suggestions that you and Lynda have decided will be most beneficial.

What will happen under hypnosis? Under hypnosis you will be guided to relax the body and quiet the mind. You go into a state of focused concentration on a thought or feeling of your choosing. Sometimes clients fall into a light asleep but are so deeply relaxed that healing and learning can take place. The subconscious mind will pick up anything said to it, like a recorder even in a state of light sleep.

Is it safe? Hypnosis is quick, effective and safe. No one has ever gotten stuck in hypnosis, although the experience feels so good that many people have said they wished they didn't have to come back!

What if I can't be hypnotized? Anyone with normal intelligence and the ability to concentrate can be hypnotized. It is a natural state that people experience everyday when driving, reading, watching a movie, or doing any activity that engrosses you so fully that you become unaware of outside stimuli.

Can anyone be hypnotized? Everyone can be hypnotized provided that they want to be. Anyone who wishes to be hypnotized can be.

What if I cannot go deeply enough? Most people can achieve a trance deep enough to allow for the process. A light hypnotic state may be sufficient to accomplish the goals of the session.
I have great will power in other areas of my life...WHY CAN'T I STOP SMOKING (OVEREATING, BEING AFRAID TO SPEAK IN PUBLIC, GET OVER MY ANXIETY, ETC.)?
Will power works when the logic of your conscious mind and the deep intention of your subconscious mind are in agreement. But in a power of wills between the conscious and subconscious, the imagination of the subconscious will always win out over the logic of the conscious mind. During hypnosis you will bring the subconscious into agreement with your conscious intent.

How long will it take? Some problems, such as habits or fears, can be solved in as little as two sessions. Others, take longer. For Weight Loss and Stop Smoking Programs there is a 5-session commitment, and maintenance packages are available.

What does hypnosis feel like? Hypnosis is very relaxing. You never lose awareness during hypnosis. You continue to be aware of your surroundings. Everyone has experienced hypnosis such as daydreaming, which is actually a hypnotic state.

Is hypnosis in your office like stage hypnosis? Will you make me dance like a chicken? No, hypnosis as used in a hypnotherapist office is a treatment process where the client's welfare is the sole focus of the procedure. The hypnotherapy is geared towards helping the client. Stage hypnosis is used to entertain an audience where the subjects are carefully selected and screened before the stage demonstration begins.

Will I remember anything after the session is over? You may or may not remember everything.  The hypnotherapy gives hypnotic suggestions to your sub-conscious mind. This condition is called hypnotic amnesia. You will remember only what you are ready to remember.

What if I do not come out of hypnosis? Everyone comes out of hypnosis. Since you went into hypnosis willingly, you will decide to come out of it.

Can I bring a friend with me? Yes, you can bring anyone with you if you need the reassurance and if that makes you comfortable. However, you need to understand that, should your therapist suggest that it is best for you to be alone; you must respect his/her recommendation and have him/her clarify that decision. Keep in mind that you are in control and feel free to have your request heard.

Is hypnosis covered by my insurance? Most insurance plans do not cover hypnosis. However, check with your accountant on whether any of these charges may be tax deductible. I can supply you with a receipt, but I do not bill insurance.
